In Autumn 2005 he put this to the test by starting a brand new magazine for the industry called Credit Collections and Risk (CCR to everyone) which has now struck a major partnership with the Association of Credit Professionals to be its primary voice to the industry. Paul left school and went into electrical goods retail and had a keen interest into the workings behind Retail Finance. In 1997 Paul moved from that into a role with a firm specialising in sub-prime lending selling financial products that inevitably had to be collected, and so started an speedy career into Credit Management. After a few short stints in different industries he took up a position in Countrywide Freight Group where he managed the collections for 4 depots. This meant spending a lot of time in the Republic of Ireland as he took a proactive approach to get the job done right. From this he went on to Vodafone Northern Ireland which he will admit wasn’t a role full of glory although he did become a little more familiar with SOX legislation than he would have liked to. Paul took up his current position as Credit Manager with Lynas Foodservice Ltd in 2007 just in time for the Credit Crunch and will admit it hasn't stopped since and I doubt he would want it any other way! Paul is a Fellow of the ACP as well as a member of the Irish Institute of Credit Management. Paul is a big fan of the Profit Centre approach to Credit Management and dislikes the Best Practice approach saying that “Best Practice only comes from years of trying different things to find out what works best at that time which some people still stand by and with the credit environment always changing we must change our approach to be able to add the value and add profit to the business we are in so let’s call it Today’s Practice, subject to change”. |
